Flagstone Patios -
Flagstone has been a preferred material choice for patios and walkways for centuries. Available in many colors and textures, flagstone will give any landscape an upgraded luxury look that is both durable and long lasting. Our masonry team specializes in flagstone installation, both random and cut. Flagstone can be installed in a couple of different ways: wet (in mortar), or dry (in sand, soil or crusher fines). For applications where movement is not allowable, mortared flagstone will be more suitable, as it is installed on the top of a concrete base, generally at least 4″ thick with rebar reinforcement. The flagstone is then adhered to the concrete base using portland cement and then grouted, also with portland cement. In areas where some movement is allowable, flagstone can be installed on a “soft” base such as sand, crusher fines, or, in some cases soil. Dry installation of flagstone will allow for some movement in the patio, which may be beneficial in the Colorado climate that includes freeze / thaw cycles. In a dry-lay application, the grout lines can be either finished with sand, crusher fines, soil, or ground cover plantings such as thyme, that will grow to fill the gaps.
